The Art of restoration

As part of the partnership between Vacheron Constantin and the Louvre Museum, on the occasion of Homo Faber, we provided the photo and video coverage of this exceptional collaboration, symbolizing the preservation and enhancement of heritage.

Our mission: to reveal the dialogue between high watchmaking and the art of restoration, capturing the precision of gestures, the nobility of materials, and the focus of the artisans. Through controlled lighting and absolute respect for the rhythm of the workshops, each image was designed to convey excellence and the transmission of savoir-faire.

Two institutions dedicated to the transmission of craftsmanship and the preservation of heritage.

“Photographing in a workshop requires precision and discretion. The light is often complex, the spaces constrained, and the materials delicate.”

Restorers from the woodworking and cabinetmaking workshop of the Louvre Museum presented their work on a display case in oak veneered with mahogany, featuring gilt bronze appliqué decorations dating from 1822.

For this project, it was essential to ensure color consistency across both sets of visuals in order to preserve the overall visual coherence. Chromatic harmony thus became the guiding thread to express the shared values of these two major institutions.

“You have to adapt to the artisans’ rhythm, not disrupt their gestures, while revealing the details and textures that embody their craftsmanship.”
